Welcome!
My name is Jessica and I am a mental health practitioner living in Turku, Finland. I provide online mental health counselling and coaching services for teens and adults (aged 16 and older).
I have a Master’s and PhD in School and Applied Child Psychology with over 15 years of experience working with clients of all different ages and cultural backgrounds. My clinical training focused on understanding the diversity of human development across the lifespan, with a special emphasis on the needs of children in schools, adolescents, and adults (ages 20+) transitioning to adulthood. I have worked in university counselling centers, community mental health settings, schools, and with non-profit organizations. I have also spent several years as a university instructor and researcher where I studied how social experiences (like bullying) influence well-being.
My own personal journey has certainly not followed a straight path. As an adult, I have lived and worked in 3 different countries. I know firsthand the excitement and anxiety that come from starting over in a new place. From having to learn a new city, a new culture, make new friends, and even a learn a new language – the changes can start to take a toll on your well-being. Especially if you find yourself in a situation that is different from what you expected. (I’ve been there, too). I also know that having someone to talk to in those moments can make a big difference.
That’s why I’m here. My purpose is to empower my clients to make positive changes in their own lives within a supportive and caring therapeutic relationship. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be yourself. Together we will collaborate to identify your personal goals and develop a plan for reaching them. Along the way we will conduct regular check-ins to make sure that we are making progress and adjust as needed. We will work together to build your skills and resilience using a combination of practices, such as: Gestalt techniques, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness and other somatic approaches.
Whatever challenges you happen to be facing at the moment, you do not have to go through it alone. I hope you will reach out, to me or someone else who can help.
Feeling better starts. . . now.
